The “backbone” of chiropractic care is correcting the subluxation. A subluxation is a dysfunctional biomechanical spinal segment which has become fixated in an improper position, effecting proper spinal movement or affecting spinal nerve communications, blood vessels, and musculature. We identify the cause of the problem, use a comprehensive whole body approach together with chiropractic adjustments to relieve you of your pains, treat your injuries and help you reach your full potential.

athletesATHLETES

Chiropractic has been benefiting athletes for many years, its full potential is becoming fully accepted and understood by the athletic community. What ever level you compete at, there is no reason not to be a your full potential for maximum performance and efficiency. When working with athletes, performance improvement is the ultimate goal. In order to achieve this you have to keep the athlete’s body maintained, as you would maintain your car. This is accomplished with injury prevention techniques. While training, athletes develop spinal misalignments, differences in muscle lengths and strengths, and adhesions build in muscles from lifting, running, or impact training. Movement patterns are no longer normal, poor posture is formed, and the body adapts by implementing bad biomechanics. These are precursors for an injury to occur later on down the road if nothing is done. What we want to do is correct the misaligned spinal segments with gentle chiropractic adjustments, remove the muscular adhesions, and correct the balance the muscular differences in strengths and lengths. Techniques like myofascial release, graston, and kinesio taping are the best way of treating the underlying causes of the muscular disturbances cause from regular training. Proper form and technique can return, and in kind improving power, efficency and performance.

If a soft tissue injury has occurred you want to help your body in the process of healing itself by using “PRICE” which is an acronym that stands for Protection, Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. Additionally other passive physiotheraphy techniques and nutritional support can be used in combination to aid and speed up the process of healing. A lot of this can be common knowledge. However, our body’s way of repairing itself after sustaining a soft tissue injury is to form scar tissue. This is where the damaged muscle fibers are replaced by collagenous scar tissue. Scar tissue has less tensile strength than muscle fibers, so when training resumes the individual is more prone to re-injury. The normal stresses of training can cause pain due to the weakened muscle from the abnormal scar tissue. The scar tissue impedes the contraction and stretching of the injured muscle, which in turn affects your entire biomechanics. Eliminating the scar tissue is critical, we use myofascial release, and graston techniques designed to break down and remove this scar tissue. It is important to seek treatment quickly following the initial injury. Usually only about two days after the trauma our bodies will start to deposit freshly made collagen in the direction of the damaged muscle fibers. This is the collagen that will form the scar tissue. We want to use soft tissue techniques to orient this collagen along the lines of the damaged muscle fibers to minimize the amount of scar tissue formed, and maintain the muscle’s tensile strength and range of motion. Treatment should continue throughout the entire remodeling phase of the injury. Our goal is to relieve you from pain and return you to proper biomechanics and top performance levels so you can once again enjoy the things you love.

acute-painARE YOU IN ACUTE PAIN?

Pain is our body’s way of telling us that something is wrong. Understanding the different type of pain you have is a vital part in making a correct diagnosis and ultimately treating the problem correctly. Acute pain is pain that comes on suddenly and is usually from a traumatic event. General examples of acute pain would be a broken bone, or a torn muscle or ligament. However there are many problems that can cause acute pain. If you have a sudden onset of a new pain such as neck pain, back pain, hip pain, or pains in the joints or extremities this is a sign that something is wrong. A proper examination of the pain can diagnose the problem, and chiropractic care can help to relieve the pain and return to you to your regular daily activities.

CHRONIC PAIN, IS YOUR PAIN NOT GOING AWAY?

Pain is our body’s way of telling us that something is wrong, chronic pain is a pain that has persisted longer than three to six months. This pain may come and go, and be mild to severe. Chronic pain may come from an untreated initial traumatic event or injury, or it just may come from insidious or gradual onset. Chronic pain can take an emotional toll causing stress, anxiety, depression and fatigue. The emotional drain and pain staying in the nervous system for such an extended period of time can cause the body to stop producing its natural painkillers and suppress the immune system. Don’t live with chronic pain, you many have pushed it to the back of your mind and tried to forget it, chiropractic care is a valuable tool to potentially alleviate chronic pain for some patients.
